Excavation in advance of laying a pipeline revealed a preserved peat surface which was removed, analysed and dated. It provided evidence for the growth of plants typically found in waterlogged environments together with small amounts of woodland pollen. The sequence appears to be entirely natural without evidence of human activity.

Reports the excavation of a farmstead running from the Iron Age through to the middle fourth century. This appears to be a typical site of this period in this area. Amongst the finds discussed are pottery, bones and coins, and the environmental evidence is also considered. The site is discussed against a background of research into the Roman period in the wider area.

Reports the excavation of a structure initially thought to be a sunken shelter of medieval date, now shown to have been a passage grave. Its location in South Wales is well outside the usual distribution of sites of this type. A model is proposed for the development of this and other sepulchral sites.

Excavation of the site of former service buildings of the palace. Three structures are described and dendrochronological analysis points to a tenth century date for plot boundaries or a possible river wharf.
