Abstract
Megalithic studies in Ireland, 1929-79
Glyn E Daniel
1 - 8
Surveys progress from Macalister to Burenhult.
The stone rings of Beaghmore: geometry and astronomy
Archibald S Thom
15 - 19
[H 685842] The site was planned at 1:240 and the geometry worked out as two Type I eggs using MY units; four circles; and one flat-ended ring. Alignments were checked for possible lunar and solar indications and one is thought certainly pointing at solstitial sunrise.
A field survey and morphological study of ring-forts in southern County Donegal
Gillian F Barrett
39 - 51
Survey and classification of 174 sites, either raths or cashels (earth or stone) and either univallate or multivallate, with considerable variation in form. Damage and removal of these monuments is approaching one-third already.
Two cross heads from County Fermanagh: Killesher and Galloon
Ann Hamlin
53 - 58
H 122358, H 391226. Describes and discusses two worn depictions of the Crucifixion, the second one now lost in churchyard 'tidying'.
Settlement and architecture in County Fermanagh, 1610-41
J D Johnston
79 - 89
Describes the progress of English and Scottish settlement, plots surviving remains of Plantation period architecture, and considers the castle building phase (mainly 1613-19). Irish, English, and Scottish traditions may be distinguished in style of architecture and masonry details.
Dungiven Bawn re-edified
Nick Brannon
Brooke S Blades
91 - 96
Reassessment of 17th century and later evidence indicates that the bawn, usually identified with the ruinous military fortification in Dungiven town, in fact stood on the site of the Priory. The town bawn is still enigmatic.
Excavation of a tree-ring at Gallanagh, County Tyrone, and some observations on tree- rings
B B Williams
97 - 101
Numerous enclosures for tree clumps were built in recent centuries in imitation of raths; excavation of one and survey of 122 others allow them to be distinguished with some confidence from other circular works. The exercise should assist the identification and preservation of genuine raths.
