As compared with England at the time, Welsh antiquarians had fewer opportunities to dig and they had perforce to collect bones rather than gravegoods. The Cambrian Archaeological Association exercised some restraining influence, and sites were published more accessibly than English ones, in journals rather than monographs. Approaches of individual workers are examined and the periods of their activity noted.

Records a ploughed-out fort with outer enclosure; small cuttings in the 2.63ha site yielded evidence suggesting occupation during the period AD 70-140, perhaps 100-125.

Re-excavation of some early trenches on this motte-and-bailey revealed a possible earlier enclosure and the considerable potential of the site.
