Abstract
Two 'dies' made from coin obverses of Allectus and their historical significance
Malcolm Lyne
145 - 150
Reports optical microscopy, radiography and x-ray fluorescence analysis of the 'dies', and discusses their possible significance. Suggests that the first, allegedly found in Boulogne, may indicate that Allectus controlled the British army in Gaul during the first months of 293 (to which period the die is dated). Argues that the second (which is without provenance, and of extremely fragile construction) was probably used to manufacture moulds from which to cast counterfeit coins. (PP-B)

Roman, medieval and later coins from the Vintry, City of London
Richard Kelleher
Ian Leins
167 - 240
Report on 1,286 coins recovered during machine-stripping of soil from 68-69 Upper Thames Street between 1989 and 1991. Notes that the soil removed was dump-material deposited behind timber revetments to reclaim land, meaning that the coins recovered could potentially have come from a wide area, although it is suggested that several of the medieval coins discussed were probably deposited in the immediate vicinity of the excavated site. Includes discussions of the Roman coins, and of the Medieval and later coins, and their significance for our understanding of London during these periods. (PP-B)
Appendix 1; catalogue of finds
200 - 233
Appendix 2; medieval coins excavated at the Tower of London
233 - 240
Reports coins excavated during the late 1980s. These include medieval and Tudor coins from the mint site, and a medieval coin hoard from the burial of a possible plague victim. Includes a catalogue of the coins. (PP-B)
Ancient hoards
Sam Moorhead
383 - 410
Notes the discovery of various hoards, mostly by metal detector. UK finds are listed between 383-399. Includes note on two Carausian aurei from Ashbourne, Derbyshire (Sam Moorhead, 397-399). (PP-B)
Medieval and modern hoards
Mark E Curteis
411 - 451
Notes the discovery of various hoards, mostly by metal detector. English finds are listed between 411-270. Includes note on a medieval hoard of silver hammered coins from Coventry (Mark Curteis, 429-430) discovered during excavations in 2006. (PP-B)
