Abstract
Management plans for cultural World Heritage Sites
Philip Whitbourn
12 - 14
Begins with a brief history of the World Heritage Convention, marking its twenty-fifth anniversary (in 1997). Noting that UK planning guidelines now encourage the preparation of management plans for World Heritage Sites, the article then suggests in outline what such plans should contain, with reference to ICOMOS/UNESCO/ICCROM guidelines.
Conservation and decay: two centuries at Old Gorhambury
Nick Hill
36 - 48
An account of the fate of the porch of sixteenth-century house since the building was abandoned in the 1780s. The structure is itself a document of the changing conservation and restoration practices over the years. In 1997, a condition survey found that the latest (1995) repairs were was already deteriorating, and this poses ethical questions for the conservator.
Flint: some observations from the Suffolk-Norfolk border
Shawn Kholucy
49 - 53
Considers some technical aspects of use of flint in the fabric of the area's medieval churches. Also examines the damage sometimes done to such fabrics by later repairs and conservation treatments.
