Rescue work in and around the standing building (which lies within the Roman town) revealed the foundations of a med S aisle and chapel, and a late med porch. Pottery of ?5th/6th century was recovered and late of post-Roman levels encountered. A model is suggested for the interpretation of the late and post-Roman road system and post-Roman occupation in the southern part of the city. Au (adp)

The nave and part of the chancel are of 12th century; a transitional tower at the W end conceals an elaborate Romanesque façade (only viewable from within the later structure) which is described and put in its contemporary monastic context. Au(abr)

Discusses the relationship between river, town, and Watling Street crossing. A small excavation showed that, contrary to expectation, only a few metres of river cliff (and town) had been eroded in 2000 years. A sketch indicates recent channel changes and timbers of a ?weir.
