Abstract
An application of photogrammetry to urban archaeology
R Wright
8 - 14
The complex nature of a medieval site in Aberdeen, coupled with the short time available for its study, were clarified by using this technique. A stereo pair of photographs of the site, taken vertically from a Simon hydraulic platform, produced a contour map at 1:20 scale with 50mm contour after only an hour's work.
A late August experience 1983: grass marks in Cumbria
Robert H Bewley
14 - 18
Grass marks over negative features allowed plans to be made during a local dry spell. The nature of this phenomenon relies on knowledge of regional rather than national weather conditions when looking for evidence.
Mapping from vertical air photographs in Cumbria
V E Turner
19 - 20
The results of a survey to enhance the sites and monuments record, using vertical photography as a way of compensating for terrain which would make oblique photography problematical.
Aerial photography and the Fenland Survey
Robert J Silvester
20 - 25
Vertical air photography of the Fenlands has proved useful, not so much for the archaeological detail it provides, but as an aid to mapping and understanding the natural landscape which exerted a considerable influence on the location of prehistoric and later settlement.
Aerial photography in North Yorkshire
Paul Chadwick
Robert White
25 - 35
Despite an extensive collection of aerial photographs relating to parts of this area, there had been little or no systematic examination or consolidation of the records. A programme of aerial surveillance of under represented areas, along with a computerised index of photographs, has proved useful both for the storage and accessing of information and the generation of computer graphics for mapping.
