A funerary and ceremonial centre at Capel Eithin, Gaerwen, Anglesey:

Reports on large-scale excavations at the site of a supposed `chapel' in Anglesey. The work revealed various periods of activity. The earliest consisted of fragmentary remains of stake and post-hole structures with associated pottery, which dated to the Neolithic. In the Early Bronze Age a number of cremations in urns were interred. A cairn and a number of charcoal-filled pits dating to the Middle Bronze Age are considered to represent a continuation of earlier funerary or ritual activity. A Late Bronze Age gold `hair ring' was located in a disturbed context and is suggested to have been part of the `Gaerwen gold hoard', discovered in the mid-nineteenth century. The Roman phase comprised a small square building of uncertain function probably associated with small-scale bronze casting in the first-second century AD. An extensive early medieval inhumation cemetery was uncovered, with its interments grouped around a central `special' grave. Graves comprised both slab-lined cists and simple grave pits of a variety of sizes, groupings and orientations.
