Abstract
A silver composite disc brooch from Harford Farm, Caistor St Edmund
Trevor M Ashwin
Kenneth Penn
Mary Davis
12 - 16
This seventh century AD `Kentish' pattern brooch was recovered from possibly the earliest Christian cemetery in Norfolk. The gold face inlaid with garnets and glass was riveted to an inscribed silver backplate whose pin and catchplate survived. A runic inscription names the craftsman who was responsible for its two repairs. AR
The Middle-Saxon settlement at Staunch Meadow, Brandon, Suffolk - a final up-date
Robert D Carr
16 - 22
Three centuries of occupation between 600--900 AD left a variety of evidence on this four acre site, including twenty-eight post-built, rectangular buildings, many with heavy clay floors. A seventh century church and two cemeteries with poorly preserved burials were also investigated. Environmental analysis of waterfront deposits indicated flax retting and dyeing and there was much evidence of weaving. Finds included over two hundred decorated pins, keys, styli, imported glass and sceattas of 740 - 770 AD. AR
Buss Creek, Southwold, Suffolk
Stuart R Bacon
23 - 24
Timbers from two early vessels and some well preserved fastenings were recovered from the creek, radiocarbon dated to AD 890 - 1155. Sufficient timbers have been recovered to attempt a reconstruction after conservation. AR
