The article reports on twenty-five baluster measures, marked by the pewterers, that were photographed, measured and discussed at a meeting of the Pewter Society in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2003.

The article gives detailed background information on the maker, Henry Hartwell, his family and their pewterers' business at St Clement Danes in London, and also discusses the arms engraved on the plate, which on one side show the Langham family crest, dating it to 1660 or later; on the other side are the impaled arms of the Langham and Hastings families, linking the plate to Sir James Langham's marriage to Lady Elizabeth Hastings in 1662. The hallmarks and alloy analysis of the plate are also discussed.
