Abstract
A Late Iron Age settlement and a Romano-British villa at Holcombe, near Uplyme, Devon
Sheila H M Pollard
59 - 161
SY 315928. Two circular double-walled huts were succeeded by a sub-rectangular ditched enclosure with two further round huts. The previously published decorated mirror (74/2438) belongs to this phase, c AD 20-44. Reoccupation began on the same spot c 70 by well-to-do people living in rectangular houses. An aisled house in stone followed c 180/200 and continued in use, with successive modifications including an octagonal bath house, into 5th century. Iron was worked on site throughout. Some post-villa activity was also evident. Appendices treat coins, samian and other pottery, brooches etc, glass, beads, iron and lead, painted plaster, infant burials, animal bones, a few flints and mollusca.
