Abstract
An evaluation of micromorphology as an aid to archaeological interpretation
Donald A Davidson
Timothy A Quine
Stephen P Carter
55 - 65
The importance of field stratigraphy in archaeological interpretation is discussed, in particular how microscopic examination of soil thin sections can complement morphological investigations on a larger scale. Emphasis in current research is being placed increasingly on anthropogenic features, occupational disturbance and post-depositional processes rather than just the retrieval of paleoenvironmental information. Examples are drawn from sites throughout Scotland. Au(adp)
