Abstract
Applying micromorphological terminology to ceramic petrography
Richard L Josephs
861 - 865
The author suggests that micromorphological terminology used to describe soil/sediment thin sections is equally useful in the description of ceramic thin sections. The primary focus of soil micromorphology and ceramic petrography is the examination of modified geologic materials composed of sand-, silt-, and clay-size particles. Protocols for describing soil or sediment in thin section are well established; however, no such guidelines exist for ceramic petrography. The author discusses how the descriptive terminology developed for soil micromorphology can be effectively used to describe thin sections prepared from archaeological ceramics.
