Abstract: |
In the early period (1st-2nd centuries) the spring was accessible from all directions; in about AD 200 the reservoir was enclosed in a massive vaulted hall, restricting access, and finds accumulated on its S side. Decay of the buildings after 350 is mirrored in the decline of votive activity, though a few deposits were made into 5th century. Finds include personal items, pieces of professional equipment (eg washer from model ballista), metal vessels (eg paterae), coins (Celtic to the end of the Roman empire, over 12 000 in all), and 130 metal curses, mostly addressed to thieves and in a variety of different handwritings. |
