Abstract
Statistical analysis of coin losses from two Roman sites in Middlesex (Enfield and Brentford)
Malcolm Horne
5 - 8
Begins by considering the usefulness of analyses of coin loss statistics as a measure of wider politico-economic change in the Roman Empire, then moves on to debate the use of coin loss patterns for two sites named as a measure of site activity and settlement status. It is concluded that there is nothing to be gained from site-specific analyses and that comparative studies of a range of sites are necessary. `Appendix 1' describes the Wilcoxon Rank Test for statistics.
English Heritage and excavations in Enfield
Geoffrey Gillam
9 - 10
Notes the results of excavations by MoLAS, carried out in the borough at the behest of English Heritage. The most interesting investigations are described as those at Edmonton Green, which revealed evidence of medieval and later occupation that may elucidate the post-Roman development of settlement alongside Ermine Street leading to the foundation of All Saints' Church. Also notes recent work by Enfield Archaeological Society at Forty Hall, near Maidens Brook.
