Abstract
Ein römischer Seidenstoff aus dem Wallis: Vallis Poenina an der antiken Seidenstrasse? Roman silk from the Valais: was Vallis Poenina on the ancient silk route?
John Peter Wild
59 - 73
A few pieces of silk and wool from a late Roman tomb at Conthey (Switzerland) give information on the dress of upper-class men, and also illustrate the use of the horizontal loom as developed for damask. The silk is Chinese in origin, and the tunic was richly decorated with wool trimmings made in Gobelin technique.
