At a recent meeting of the Council of the Society there was a discussion of the current series of reviews and consultations on various areas of heritage service and heritage management in Scotland including the RCAHMS, Historic Scotland, A strategy for Scottish Historic Environment Records and the forthcoming Scottish Historic Environment Policy (SHEP).

Scotch carpets are flat pile-less woven carpets made in strips of varying width. An example from Crawick Mill near Sanquhar is a jacquard woven piece from the 19th-century.

Work from the first phase of the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework will be made freely available online from April 2012. There will be nine reports focussing on different aspects of Scotland's past.

The project has been awarded a grant of almost half a million pounds by the Arts and Humanities Research Council for phase two which will cover 258 parishes in the dioceses of St Andrews and Brechin over a period of three years.
