Abstract: |
Comprises four separate contributions discussing the latest techniques employed by English Heritage staff. `Part I: photogrammetry' by Mike Clowes (1--7) explains the technique of making scale drawings of three-dimensional objects from stereoscopic photographs taken in the field. `Part II: rectified photography' by David Andrews (8--12) shows how single photographs may be used, as in aerial photography, to give an accurate scale image of a relatively flat elevation or floor. `Part III: the non-photographic survey of historic buildings and monuments using CAD and EDM without reflectors' by Bill Blake (13--23) covers more traditional methods of surveying by measured drawing. Conventional techniques can be assisted by using CAD computer programmes and digital data collection instruments (EDMs and REDMs). `Part IV: the use of digital data of historic buildings and monuments' by Kate Wilson (23--30) looks in greater detail at the application of CAD for storing and analysing survey information. There follows a glossary of surveying terms. |
