Abstract
Saxon cross found in Civil War ditch
Gillian Dunn
1
Note on several pieces of decorated stone uncovered during the excavation of a ditch apparently associated with the Civil War at Tarvin, near Chester; the pieces were identified as parts of one or more crosses dating to the tenth or early-eleventh century.
Barracks under the bowling green
Gillian Dunn
2
Note on an archaeological evaluation and trial trenching at a site in the Princess Street/Hunter Street area of Chester, where the remains of a Roman barrack building were uncovered.
Saighton Camp
Michael Morris
3
Trial trenching in advance of development at Saighton Camp, Huntington, revealed a sequence of land use predating the twentieth-century army camp, comprising a system of ditches and gullies dated to the prehistoric or Roman period on the basis of a first-century copper-alloy Roman brooch found in one of the gullies; medieval ridge and furrow; and eighteenth- and nineteenth-century hedged fields.
