Abstract
Introduction to the historical archaeology of powered cultural landscapes
Suzanne M Spencer-Wood
Sherene Baugher
463 - 474

A feminist framework for analyzing powered cultural landscapes in historical archaeology
Suzanne M Spencer-Wood
498 - 526
Briefly defines power and develops a heterarchical theory of power. Cultural landscapes are defined and categories of human-landscape interactions are constructed. Applies the heterarchical paradigm to analyze the social power dynamics in selected examples of historical archaeological research concerned with each category of human-landscape interaction.
The archaeology of occupation and the V-sign campaign in the occupied British Channel Islands
Gillian Carr
575 - 592
Charts the course of the V-for-victory campaign in the occupied British Channel Islands, set within its European context, from 1940'“45, examining the manifestations of the V-sign in a material form, and how this changed with time. Highlights the use of the V as both an open and a hidden symbol of resistance, and the role it played both in 'fighting' the German forces behind their backs and in boosting morale among the local population, even after the appropriation of the symbol by the occupiers.
