Reports a survey of a small area of the Yorkshire Dales which used aerial photographs and maps, created by the National Mapping Programme (NMP), to re-map features at a larger scales. These new maps combined with field observations have revealed the major stages in the development of the landscape from the Iron Age to the post-medieval periods. The potential for using this methodology to assist the understanding and management of extensive earthwork landscapes is considered.
