Abstract: |
An initial survey of the area to locate the sites of sediments suitable for palynological investigation aimed to provide environmental data relevant to the excavations at West Heslerton. This report gives the details of further investigations of three of these original sites, one of which appears to cover the Atlantic to the post Roman period, or possibly later. Two major clearance episodes are seen, one apparently at the elm decline and the second at the start of the Sub-Atlantic. Evidence for pastoral activity is seen, but evidence for arable agriculture is, at best, inconclusive. |
