Abstract: |
Soil samples were taken from surfaces and features inside and outside the smithy. The magnetic susceptibility of the sample was measured. The samples were then processed to recover any flake and spheroidal hammerscale present. The quantity of hammerscale and magnetic susceptibility were compared; the distribution of the hammerscale inside and outside the smithy building was examined. The results were used to confirm the building as a smithy. |
