Abstract: |
Two thin sections from an early medieval ditch fill at Norwich Castle Mall were examined. Their analysis suggests that the ditch fill developed through muddy silting and included charred waste and sewage sludge. A timescale of a few years rather than weeks or months, for the development of the fill, is appropriate. There is an appendix; `Norwich Castle Mall: soil micromorphological description of ditchfill (context 92375) (sample 143 G)' (7--12). |
