Abstract: |
The skeletal remains from a large but incompletely excavated Saxon cemetery at Caister-on-Sea are examined. Remains of 139 articulated individuals were recovered, together with a small amount of disarticulated bone from all over the site. The articulated remains represented forty nine males, fifty females, eight unsexed adults and thirty two children. Demographic, metrical, morphological, dental and pathological aspects of the group are considered, and compared with the contemporary local cemetery populations from Burgh Castle, North Elmham and Brandon. |
