Abstract: |
A collection of animal remains from a deserted farmstead dated to between AD 950 and 1400, were mostly from sheep and cattle of small size. The wide range of ages represented suggests that Eckweek was a `producer' settlement. There does not appear to have been any significant faunal change between the earlier phase of the site's occupation (AD 950-1250) and the later phase (AD 1250-1400). The presence of both meat-bearing and non-meat-bearing parts of the skeleton suggests that the bones derived from general waste of animals slaughtered locally. Includes an appendix giving `Measurements of teeth and bones from Eckweek in millimetres' (19-27). |
