Abstract: |
Excavations at Litigan and Queen's View showed that these massively walled structures were homesteads rather than 'ring forts'. The slender evidence for date and origin points to a pastoral people with Irish origins, part of the movement of the Scotti into Scotland. The inventory of such sites numbers 108 at least, including examples in the Luce Bay and Clyde/Linnhe areas, and a number of topics are identified for further research. Similarities with Irish cashels are marked. |
