Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	Results of a Community Programme project to improve the coverage of the Sites and Monuments Record in the eastern part of the county. A fieldwalking transect 24km x 4 was chosen as an achievable target for 12 months' work. Information was also acquired from aerial surveys, archives, historic buildings, hedgerows, and the like. An account of the physical environment, methodology, and results of the fieldwork is concluded by an assessment of the SMR gain by chronological period.
