Abstract: |
Demonstrates the essence, appeal and value of archaeology, "a complicated jigsaw puzzle of which .... at least 90% of the pieces are missing" and in which therefore the pursuit of generalising laws of human behaviour or the construction of Thiessen polygons are at once inappropriate and misleading. As a discipline, archaeology involves the student directly with primary sources of evidence and teaches him to observe, record and finally draw from them such inferences as are legitimate. |
