Abstract: |
Two sites are described. The Iron Age and Romano-British site at Frilford was re-excavated and re-appraised: the main Iron Age building is not a small polygonal hut but a large stake-wall strucutre 9.6m diameter, not continuing into 1st century AD. At Woodeaton, small-scale excavations yielded small bronzes analogous to Ewart Park types; mid-Iron Age bronze-working suggests the potential for recovery of industrial evidence. Occupation runs from mid-1st millennium to Romano-British times, not necessarily continuously, but cult practice may predate the first Romano-British shrine in the 1st century AD. |
