Abstract
Birmingham Moat: its history, topography, and destruction
Lorna Watts
1 - 77
SP 074864. Results of a watching brief of this medieval manorial complex were archaeologically disappointing apart from revealing a finely chamfered sandstone structure and a quantity of environmental data (some of ?Late Glacial period). Documentary evidence on the history and topography of the area shows the moat in its landscape context.

Timber-framed houses in Spon Street, Coventry
Freddie W B Charles
91 - 122
The decision to preserve and restore all the ancient timber-framed buildings in Spon Street gave opportunities to fill in the gaps with threatened buildings brought from elsewhere in Coventry. The whole scheme allowed the study of a great variety of designs of the basic medieval open-roofed hall with attached shop or workshop. Purlin roofs were commoner than rafter roofs, but otherwise construction over the period involved (mid-14th century to 1600) was fairly uniform.
