Abstract
Excavations in Newbury town centre 1971-4: part 2
Steve Ford
19 - 40
Catalogues the small finds, mainly of medieval date (including cloth-making appurtenances and metalworking evidence); there is some residual RB material and a set of Meso flakes from one core. On pp 78-82 same author argues that a quern-like object from the town is a mill-bearing, possibly of the Roman period.

Records two scissor-braced cruck trusses, each with a jointed cruck for one blade and a true cruck for the other. Jointed crucks are uncommon in this area. A ?six-bay range is suggested; on the basis of the fairly light scantling and butt-purlin roof the date could be about 1400+.
