Abstract
Medieval pottery from Warrington, Bucks
Dennis C Mynard
41 - 44
Sherds from a rubbish level sealed by the destruction of a building were found after recutting of a roadside ditch and provided evidence of survival into the medieval period of rim forms and decoration of St Neots ware type. Other wares in the deposit, which is attributable to the first half of the 13th century and appears to have accumulated rapidly, were Olney Hyde wares from the kilns only ½ mile away, Great Brickhill and Potterspury types. The name "St Neots" ware unfortunately suggests a central manufacturing and distributing system, whereas the developed form found here was probably locally made and there may have been many other centres of production. It should also be borne in mind that much St Neots ware published as Saxo-Norman in date could be considerably later.
