Abstract: |
Booklet setting out the findings of the archaeological investigation of a medieval moated platform in Timperley, Altrincham, commencing in 1989. Prehistoric finds and evidence of late Saxon activity are summarised before an account is given of the site's medieval and later history. The moated site is then set in its national and regional context. The results of the excavations and some notable artefacts, including the regionally important pottery assemblage, are described. Documentary evidence and surviving buildings are used to give an account of the farm that was associated with the old hall, whilst a brief final section describes the restoration of the moated platform in 2011-12 to form a garden.
