Abstract:
Following a desk-based assessment further work consisting of a trial trench evaluation, a watching brief and photographic survey was carried out by ULAS on land at The Old School House, Main Street, Countesthorpe, Leicestershire (SP 586954) in June and July 2005. The archaeological work encountered three probable boundary ditches of early medieval date and a number of circular and sub-circular features suggesting the presence of buildings and domestic activity within the area. A photographic survey was carried out on the school that was constructed between 1873 and 1913, comprising two main building phases prior to redevelopment. The site archive will be deposited with the Leicestershire County Council Heritage Services under the Accession Number XA 137 2005.
