Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on land adjacent to Swanton Morley Airfield (Roostinghills Quarry) at Beetley, Norfolk ( Norfolk Sites and Monuments Record 37159 HZE). The work was carried out between the 5th and 17th of June 2002 by the Norfolk Archaeological Unit and incorporated a field survey (field walking and metal detecting) and a programme of trial trenching. The work was funded by Barker Brothers Aggregates Limited in advance of aggregate extraction. The site encompasses three fields referred to here as Field 1, 2 and 3 and covers an area of 10 ha centred at National Grid Reference TF 9950 1884. Three military buildings associated with the past use of the land as an airfield were also recorded in advance of their demolition. |
