Abstract:
In resonse to a request for further information to advise a planning application for the development of an agricultural irrigation reservior at Highfields Farm, Coates, Cambridgeshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owners to undertake a programe of archaeological evaluation. Seventy nine evaluation trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed reservoir and it''s encillary activities. This revealed three areas of prehistoric activity, including settlement and ceremonial evidence. The majority of the features are late Bronze/Early Iron in date. Four unurned cremations where identified that have been assigned to the late Bronze/Early Iron Age on the basis of a fragment of pottery found with one of the fills.
