Abstract: |
A watching brief to observe the excavation for a pit for a septic tank and an associated pipe run. St Andrew''s church is grade II* listed and much of the structure originally dates from the 12th century. Both the excavation for the pit and pipe revealed only three layers, a modern topsoil, an acculmulation layer and then geological clay deposits. No archaeological features were observed in the pipe trench. One inhumation was uncovered in the tank pit. Peg tile in the cut suggests a post-medieval date. Remains were transfered to the church warden for reburial. |
