Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out by NAU Archaeology on land at Beacon Hill, Burnham Market, to monitor footing trenches and associated drainage works for a residential development. During this work a linear feature, likely to be a ditch, was observed in section. The fill of this feature contained animal bone and a fragment of medieval pottery. The line of a second ditch was observed in the base of the footings. This ditch is thought to be a continuation of a Roman ditch located in an earlier phase of archaeological work. In addition to the location of these features, medieval and post-medieval pottery were recovered from the topsoil, and two fragments of worked stone were recovereed from the base of a garden wall. The fieldwork took place on the following dates 18-20 and 26 June, 30 November and 3 December. |
