Abstract: |
In order to advise a planning application for the redevelopment of the Watford Central Baths, including a car dealership on the street frontage, and a building known as The Scout Hut, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the applicants to undertake an appraisal of the standing structures. The study has concluded that the Central Baths building is worth consideration as a rare example of an indoor pool of the 1930s, and as part of a group of buildings of the period which form Watford's Civic Centre. A World War II air-raid shelter or bunker, located beneath the Scout Hut, is also worth consideration as a relic of 1940s civil defence architecture of a non-standard type. The Scout Hut itself, and the car dealership are not considered to be of any intrinsic interest. |
