Abstract: |
This geomagnetic survey took place on a 0.5ha strip of land between Kipling Road and Thackeray Road. A Bartington Grad601-2 dual gradiometer systems was used with twin sensors set at 1m apart. A zig-zag traverse was used with an interval of 1m and sample interval of 0.25m. The survey failed to detect sub-soil anomalies due to large amounts of surface ferrous material and former areas of hardstanding. The geomagnetic was followed by trial trenching which also failed to detect archaeological features. The site appears to be archaeologically sterile in spite of its close proximity to the multi-phase prehistoric and Romano-British settlement site at Catcote to the immediate north. |
