Abstract: |
Archaeological Monitoring of groundworks associated with the tidal defence improvements at North Battlesbridge. Few archaeological features were identified. Two fire-pits or hearths, possibly associated with salt extraction, were excavated below 1.5m of overburden. No dating evidence was recovered but depth of burial suggests a prehistoric or Roman date. Elsewhere a 19th/20th century field boundary was recorded along with areas of modern ground build-up and a pit of probable recent origin. An unstratified clay figurine (poss 16th century) was recovered from the riverbank. |
