Abstract:
A programme of archaeological work was undertaken in 2010 on the site of a proposed wind farm on the Drummuir estate near Keith, Moray. A previous archaeological field reconnaissance survey was undertaken on the proposed development area in October 2001 by CFA Archaeology Ltd on behalf of RES. Due to boundary changes after the initial field survey took place, a small area to the south-west of the proposed development area (the site of Turbines 1 and 2) was not included in the original survey. It was this area that was surveyed in 2010. The survey located a portion of trackway and a parish boundary seen on the 1st edition OS map. The remains were in general heavily overgrown and in many places inaccessible or not visible due to modern forestry. Also visited and recorded were parish boundary markers SMR NJ34NE0026 and NJ34NW0025. The location of Hillhead Croft NMRS NJ34NW-31 and SMR NJ34NW0032 was visited but no remains were visible A previously unknown trackway was noted although it is likely to be relatively modern in date. Three previously known sites were demarcated and fenced off to prevent accidnetial damage during the windfarm construction phase; these were Rosarie Forest Buildings (SMR No NJ34NE 0019), Rosarie Forest Enclosure, Farmsteads, Lades and Ponds (SMR No NJ34NE 00193), and a boundary marker.
