Abstract: |
In response to a condition on the planning permission for the construction of a new access road at Stockwell Farm, Fancott, Bedfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by Mark Burley and Norma Congreve to undertake the archaeological monitoring of the development groundworks. The monitoring of the groundworks revealed the remains of a series of boundary features and pits largely dating from the 12th to mid 14th centuries. These remains were all located adjacent to Luton Road at the northern end of the new access road and possibly represent medieval domestic activity. The level of the road rose quickly to the south as it ran towards Stockwell Farm house and the topsoil layer was not breached at the southern end of the access road. No further archaeological remains were encountered. |
