Abstract: |
This watching brief took place during the excavation of eight geotechnical test pits at the former Saltburn Landfill site. The site was formerly an ironstone quarry (HER 1121). The quarrying process disturbed an Anglo-Saxon cemetery (HER 0280) in 1909-10. The natural clay was noted at various depth ranging between 0.5m and 4m demonstrating that truncation varied across the site. 20th century fills were noted at thicknesses of between 1.3m and at least 3.6m. There were no features or finds of archaeological interest. |
