Abstract: |
Trial trenching evaluation undertaken ahead of the school's redevelopment. The site lies adjacent to the site of Delight Pit, which was of likely 18th century origin, and is crossed by the route of an overground waggonway running NW-SE. Two trenches were sited to test the line of this fetaures as it crossed the infilled dene of small river (burn). Trench 1 recorded the clay embankment for the waggonway at 1.25m below ground level. No timbers of the track survived. Trench 2 recorded colliery waste representing infilling of the dene and probably lies beyond the waggonway route. |
