Abstract:
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by 4Delivery Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief during works associated with the construction of a pipeline between Fox Hill and Haywards Heath. Several archaeological features were identified, mostly ditches concentrated in the low-lying land of the southern sections of the pipeline. Evidence for Mesolithic or early Neolithic activity on or near site was seen along the length of the pipeline in the form of residual worked flint and two small flint scatters were observed. Medieval pottery was recovered from a feature close to Lunces Hill in the southern section and late post-medieval pottery was recovered from the trackway in the northern section although the track may be older.
