Abstract: |
North Pennines Archaeology Ltd undertook an archaeological watching brief during site investigations on the land to the southeast of Selby, concerning the development of a wind farm. It was decided that a borehole survey would be an appropriate evaluation technique. A total of 10 boreholes were planned and monitored for the location of the proposed wind turbines and associated infrastructure. The survey revealed solid sandstone bedrock overlain by a series of mixed alluvial deposits. The southern half of the site appears to have always been an active floodplain, with several deposits containing wood fragments. The northern half appears to have avoided continuous flooding enabling the preservation of significant peat deposit. |
