Abstract: |
The site is currently being redevolped, with the former Friston House being replaced with a new academic building. Five geotechnical test pits were excavated to check the geology of the site and to test for the drainage capacity of the natural deposits. As part of the mitigation, it was decided that an archaeological watching brief should take place on these pits. No archaeology was observed, with topsoil directly overlying the natural chalk. This is likely to be due to landscaping of the grounds during the construction of the university in the 1960's. |
