Abstract: |
A programme of trial trench evaluation was carried out on the site of proposed semi-detached houses. The site comprised a yard area and a garden, separated by a brick-built barn or workshop which was scheduled for demolition under the development proposal. A linear trench in the garden area revealed evidence of medieval and/or early post medieval pits, while similar stratigraphy was encountered in a smaller trench excavated on the line of proposed services in the yard area. Deposits of modern brick and tile in the upper levels of the excavations suggested the former presence of eighteenth and/or nineteenth century structures in the immediate area. |
